I wrote this a few years ago when I was traveling through India on my motorcycle and stopped to have a chai. It’s as relevant today as it was when I wrote it. I return to this whenever I need a reminder. The past two years have caused many people to re-evaluate their life. Most people are feeling disoriented in the chaos. A guiding principal to life is understanding the purpose and your relationship to it. This concept centers you by providing perspective and focus so that you may have clarity among the ever changing environment.
As I ride south (2,200 km) down the chained roads of India on my Mobile Meditation Machine (see photo) I reflect how life is the exploration of creative expression. It is this exploration which brings satisfaction, self-realization, and ultimately God-realization. I have written, posted, and taught this many times because I believe, live, and experience this as something that brings me closer to the Truth, Ek Ong Kar.
To understand better how this is the path to the Truth, you have to appreciate your existence. Often when I tell someone that their life is the exploration of creative expression, they will say - “but I’m not creative.” This perspective lacks a clear understanding of who you are and where you come from.
The Creator and the Creation are one. A piece of clay is obviously clay. When it is shaped into a cup, we call it a cup. However, it’s still clay. The Creator and the Creation are one. You are the creative manifestation of the Creator, Ong Sohung. You are creativity. What does creativity do? It expresses itself.
The point of life, of yoga – is to move from the coarse to the subtle. God being the most subtle. Authentic self-expression comes from the unhindered connection to the self, this is “self” expression. What impedes, or prevents this expression? The lack of connection to the self. We call it a “creative block”. It’s a resistance to the self. This resistance takes many forms. The biggest resistance is to think that you are not creative. As said already, you are creativity! You are the creative expression of the Creator. Your ability to accept this is what we call self-love.
Love is synonymous with Creativity. Unfortunately, we mistaken love with emotion. Love is unchangeable, emotion fluctuates. God is Love. This expression of love is only resisted by false identification. As you continue down the path to expressing love/creativity, observe the resistance to this. The resistance is an indication of a false identification, of habit patterns.
When you let go of this resistance, your expression becomes more authentic, and you recognize a deeper, more subtle connection within. This is how your life should be. Your life should not evolve as part of a goal, it should unfold as a form of self-expression. You are not here to become something, you are here to uncover what already exists. If you polish a dirty stone you found on the ground and see that it is a beautiful crystal under all the dirt, you wouldn’t say that it “became” a crystal. It was a crystal, you just removed the resistance of its beautiful nature, what was already there.
Ong Sohung.
